2014 Challenge #1 - Shoot anything that begins with the letter "A".

Hello Everyone!  I'm using a Canon EOS Rebel T3.  I have 2 lenses, but usually shoot with a 18-55 mm.  I try to work in different modes as I'm still attempting to learn Aperture and Shutter Speed and how they work together, but I'm starting to get a handle on it a little at a time.

Any suggestions are appreciated, as are tips (and I do mean cash) !!!

So . . . A is for ART ?????

A girl I work with makes these little (creepy) dolls out of paper and sometimes corks.

Photo #1 - Mode used:  Shutter Priority 1/100,  f/4.5, ISO 3200

Photo #2 - Mode used:  Shutter Priority 1/60, f/4, ISO 3200

And . . . A is for ANIMAL ????

This is tiger.
Photo #3 - Mode used:  Shutter Priority 1/30, f/5.6, ISO 3200

Photo #4 - Mode used:  Shutter Priority 1/30, f/5.6, ISO 2500

And . . . A is for the obvious . . . Apples !! !

Photo #5 - Mode Used:  Manual, 1/400, f/8, ISO 100

Photo #6 - Mode used:  Manual 1/400, f/8, ISO 100

  1. Great job on all your pictures, I really liked number 4 and number 6. The kitten looks so relaxed :-) and I enjoy the way you captured the iPhone in the apple picture, very creative !!!!!!!!

  2. I like #1 in the way you had focus on the item in front. However, in #2 I might have better enjoyed having all of the items in focus. Very clever to blur the items in front and focus on the rear items.

The clarity in #3 is fabulous. His whiskers are soooo focused! Nice.

I like #5 & 6 very much related to the clarity of each shot. I agree with Mark that your phone alongside the apple is very clever indeed!!! Very creative!!

Good Job Robin!! I hope you want to keep playing this little game with us!!

  3. Hi Robin,
It looks like Nightmare before Christmas. Those are good shots with the focus back and front. Did you change the shutter speed from 100 to 60? It didn't change the picture any. Also they are very good sharp pics for 3200 ISO. Usually at 3200 the picture get grainy.
Shutter priority is more for moving subjects where you want to stop something that's moving or purposely slow down the shutter to blur a moving object. For still life, aperture priority is better. The aperture gives the fixed depth of field you can control. Like the dolls could have been all in focus with an aperture of f16 or just part of them with f4.
I like the super sharp apple and the phone. I didn't get it about the apple phone until I read the other posts. I thought "why the phone" DUH!!
